![]() With a total of 600 health points, the Shambler is the toughest Enemy to kill in the entire game.He will try to clobber you with his melee attack if you're even a moderately short distance away this can take up to 60 points of damage in a single attack (up to 120 in dual-hand claw).His ranged attack is a lightning bolt that can take up to 30 health points (40 on Nightmare difficulty), and it will hit unless you're hiding behind something or are outside of his range.Despite having a large frame, he is surprisingly fast and difficult to outrun. The Shambler is a very intimidating creature, and not just for his menacing appearance.This scrapes away at his sanity and his humanity until his feels as if he is more alien than man, forgetting about his family and home-life he left behind. He is seemingly victorious and manages to escape only to be trapped inside the Slipgates for thousands of more years. He is forced to face off against many old foes and even some allies in an attempt to become the winner of the tournament and escape the arena. Here he is captured and forced to compete in a tournament held by the Vadrigar or The Arene Masters. ![]() Ranger returns as a playable character in the third installment. Unfortunately, he is forever lost inside the Slipgates, constantly traveling dimensions in a vain attempt to find his what was once his home. He spawns inside the beast, taking up her space, causing her to explode, and leaving Ranger victorious. Ranger cannot kill her with normal weapons, and must fight through many of her minions before finding the Teleporter that will teleport him to Shub-Niggurath's platform. After collecting all 4 Runes, a large hole in the main dimension select room leads to Shub-Niggurath's Pit. In the second dimension, Ranger learns that Quake is actually Shub-Niggurath from Lovecraftian myth, the evil mother of all creatures. Ranger then travels through 4 different dimensions, each more hellish than the last, to collect the four magic Runes that, when combined, will open the gate to the lair of Quake. All marines sent through were killed, except for Ranger. Ranger has the full authority to requisition anything that he requires.Īround the time of the Operation Counterstrike, he is one of the many marines sent to defeat the enemy leader, code-named "Quake". Being their "best man", Ranger is in charge of Operation Counterstrike, finding Quake, and stopping him. But an enemy, codenamed "Quake", is using his own Slipgates to insert his forces inside of some of Earth’s bases in order to kill, steal, and kidnap. The commander tersely explains that once they perfect the Slipgate device, they’ll be capable of utilizing them to instantly transport people and cargo from one place to another. He receives a telephone call at 4 A.M., and arrives at the secret installation by 5:30. Ranger is a marine in the special forces. It is also mentioned in Quake 3 that he enjoys a good challenge and becomes nasty if his opponents are weak. He effectively becomes more alien than man. He forgets the life he once lived and even forgets his family. After many years traveling through Slipgates, Ranger begins to forget who he once was. He is also very xenophobic towards aliens. He apparently had a wife and son, although it is implied, he is distant towards him. Although what is apparent is that he is dedicated to his country and planet, willing to come into battle at any point in time, no matter what. Much like Doomguy, Ranger's personality is very mysterious and vague, even more so than the latter. He is very expressive and frequently sports a big menacing grin as he is performing his destructive tasks. He is also frequently shown toting large weaponry such as his super-shotgun and his chain gun. He has very distinct facial features and a large chin with no facial hair. Ranger is a very muscular man wearing an advanced suit of brown and yellow armor and combat boots, along with dark brown army pants.
